Hello Colin
Seems I am always picking your brain about fishing line, whilst searching

for the low diameter 14lb Sufix line I came across a line I have never

heard of before,it had a write up on Leslies of Luton website, more a Carp

fishing site than sea but was looking every where for the ilusive 14lb bs

Sufix line. Its called "top line" and comes in 11lb-0.25mm , 14 lb-0.28mm

and 16lb-0.30mm .Its also for sale ay Gerrys of Morcombe (advert in Sea

Angler, not on website) the price is a little steep at £14.99  a

1000mtr spool but if you buy two you get a third free :? .Wonderd if you

have ever come across it before, on the write up it tells you all about it

being pre-streched in hot ovens to get the thin diameter :?: .Not a line I

would be using all the time but would be handy for the odd time that you

need to get that little further :cheesy:

Cheers Dave.

Hi Daveyboy

I have been down this route with 8lb line and boy did it go but for fishing it was a waste of time as it cracked off 3 times out of 4.

Try the suffix synergy at 15lb and build in a better safety factor and perhaps improve your style to gain those extra yards,

How far are you casting now and how far do you want to cast and why!

Hi Colin
I cant honestly tell you how far i am casting,me and my fishing buddy who is a long time served sea angler measured the line retreive on my reel per turn of the handle in inches and then converted it to yards,we did all the maths in our heads and our conversions come out to 220 yards, this could be more than a little off the mark!!I use the standard over the head thump cast with no style and have done for many years, its a means to an end as far as getting a bait in the water .Have been trying off the ground cast over the last month with the same distance results.I think its safe to say i need a bit of help to build up the confidense in otg casting,I use so little effort with this new style to acheive the same results.

Hi Daveyboy

Can you teach me to cast 220 yds with an overhead thump please.!!!!!!!

The reason why you cast further otg than overheadthump is down to the fact that otg the rod locks and you build up compression . The overheadthump you dont one cast bends the rod and one does not.

Send me a pm and we will get together if you wish as i want to see this 220yds with the overhead thump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could teach you that Colin but like I said this is more than a little off the mark.

Count me in on learning this technic Daveyboy 220yards WOW ... WAS THIS WITH BAIT TOO 8)
You must be built like a brick out-house to achieve these distances :cheesy:

I wish i paid more attention in my maths lessons, before i make any more fantastic statements about length   I am going to measure out a cast and get back on this one,I dont think a painter and a panel beater standing on a cold january beach with ten fingers between us converting inches into feet and then feet into meters and then meters into yards got it right somehow:oops:  I must admit it did seem a bit on the long side........oh well isnt the first time i have made a prat out of myself and no doubt it wont be the last
Cheers all from a rather red faced Dave (and it aint sunburn)

As to distance.

I was on Twynham playing fields this weekend playing footy with my kids and I noticed the running track had been marked out. The 100 metre sprint is a bloody long way particularly if you look to try and put a lead that far.

Maybe distance doesn't appear the same on water but i thought I could get to at least 80 yards, I';ve begun to think twice having seen that running track!!

You'd be suprised Lee .. last year we measured out 100yards and walked back to the casting positon ..... i could'nt believe just how far it looked and had come to the conclusion that all these years I'd been casting 100ft .......... BUT when actually casting we found it pretty easy to get past the 100yard mark with Bass rods and 4 oz leads ..(no bait or hooks mind you ) ... So I think you would suprise yourself if you tried it !

You're probably right Coddie. I keep meaning to take my tennis ball and fishing stuff over the field for a practice but never seem to make time. anyway it's hard enough getting out on the beach to swing a lead and I'm not sure what the wife will make of it if I tell her I'm off to the playing fields to play with my tackle!! :cheesy:

I promised at the start of this chat to have a casting session and measure a cast properly to get a correct idea of the distance im getting  .With the overhead thump I cast 138.88 yards (lead only) and OTG I cast 152.01 (lead only) these casts were the best of the bunch but only just that little bit further than average, seems to be my maximum with the way my cast is at the moment,so there we have it,a slightly more realistic distance than before   .I am pleased with the distance :razz:and i understand that with rigs and bait on the distance is cut back quite a lot, but my style could do with a good look over from Colin so hopefully things will get a little better and a little easier.
Cheers all Dave

Hi all, I am a new user to this site. Crack off recommended it.
Have recently started this sea fishing lark and i managed to talk colin into a casting lesson, that is him teaching me!! A great idea if you dont want to be up on a manslaughter charge for killing someone with a 5oz lead doing 200mph. Confidence is doing well and so is the distance. Already managed to garote a jet skier off of Sandbanks, no fish yet though. Does a jet skier count on a weigh in ?

If it meets the minimum size requirements, you can weigh it in
