Just a quick question :?
Has anybody tried glueing and then shrink sleeving eyes on to a rod :?:
If so does it last?
I am going to try and rebuild a rod,I can whip eyes but the finish isnt that good,so just wondered if any one has tried the above

yea, thought about this one sometime ago but never got arround to trying it.
should work suggest;- make sure you've long sections of shrink sleeve , shrink end of tube nearest eye first then work out to the end of the leg
and trim exess.
caution , lots of heat on fine blank tips may cause problems though.
it might give a real neat finnish.

Thanks for the tip GeeJayy.
I have to wait till the high build I have ordered to come then give it a go.
Looks like it will take a few weeks to do till the rod is ready for use.
I will have to go back to using my old gear for a while

i'd try it on an old rod first. my original thought involved a contiuous section to cover both legs with 2x slits to allow the insertion of the legs , start shrinking tube then insert the legs b4 the tube binds tight like i said i haven't done any of this, just thought about it.
top tip, use electricians self amalgamateing tape to secure the legs in desired position .
when useing whipping thread this helps the thread step up over the start of the leg with no gaps.
as for glue , i just use a dab of super glue to secure the end of the thread at the start of a whip and to stop any slippage on the whipfinnish knot.
being a lazy git my re ring whips are destinctive as both legs are done in a continuous whip whith a turn of thread directly under the eye as i go from one leg to the next , the first legs whip is prevented from unravelling by a dab of super glue prior to varnish/hi build
