Welcome to the forums seark4.

What a catch, must have been hard work bringing that fish in even with a beachcaster. Its a shame you didn't have a camera handy... must have been huge.

Was it caught during darkness or whilst it was still light?

Been thinking of fishing Lepe myself. Are the tides strong down there?

weakest spot fer the tides is between the groynes at the far end of the carpark where you should have no probs ,
expect a strong tide run east at standsore point( deepwater).
ebb tide, if not the flood, quite strong towards the cottages(west).
usual solent weed greif if ur unlucky.
carparks will prob get locked at 20.00.
good luck,
btw were you fishing the beach or yaking down at pennington?.

Cheers GJ

Have been fishing from the shore down at Pennington. However, this Saturday we will be taking the yaks down there with Zzippy and Simon Everett from Boat Fishing Monthly. High water is around dusk - will fish the tide up not too far out from the shore from early afternoon. Kayak or shore, either way will produce if the fish are in.

Would be less hassle to shore fish down there but I'm planning to go tope fishing from the yak in Wales the weekend after & want some practice plus Simon will get a story if we catch. The first kayak caught tope that we know of was caught up there the other week and the marks still fishing well.

about i tend to fish the shalower water by the sandbar, its not too bad there.suprisingly the ray came in without too much hassle,it was once on the beach that the fun really started.......
