Do any of you have a boat on the shore at Langton Herring?

The tenants of the 2 small huts on the top of the bank have been given notice to quit. The site is going to be sold later in the year. If the wrong person buys it and puts up gates, there may be no longer an access to the shore for boat trailers and nowhere to park or turn a vehicle round.

Watch this space!

Is its just the sein netters selling up ?? I was told last year the sein netting is very very slow there now, so the owner wanted to give up. (What a shame to loose a great bit of tradition).

Im confused where's this info from ?

Ive got a boat there and as far as i know its just the netters selling up ,nothing to do with the houses, the farm owns the access road NOT the houses, the farmer is the owner of the strip of land most boats are tied to,the thin strip between the fence and the start of the shore.

Got his mobile number so will phone him in the day time on Sunday but think you will find nothing is changing so dont panic

The boathouse and land including the car park belongs to a person up in the village. The track is a 'BOAT' (Byeway Open to All Traffic) so cannot be closed, but there will be nowhere to park or turn a vehicle if it is gated off. The sein netters rent one of the sheds on the bank.
The estate that owns the Fleet and the Beach may want to buy it. The farmer will undoubtedly want it also.
If you think you have historical rights of access to the foreshore, you had better registered it in some way.

First, Don't bank on it being closed. It's in Dorset & our lovely CC seem to dislike them. They cannot take away BOAT status or even downgrade it but can quite easily slap a T.R.O on it.
Apart from that it's good news! Because it's a boat it's ileagal to block or put a locked gate across it.

It depends where the BOAT ends.
If it reaches the shore, then it's OK.
There are some fence posts that have been marked with red paint, apparrently marking the beginning of the private property.

As for putting a gate across a road, how about the one that appeared at Abbotsbury a few years ago, across the old road to West Bexington. That is a road maintained at public expense!

I would like to see that road made passable, instead of it just being somewher for the off-road chaps to play on.

Checked with the Highway Dept at County Hall. My info was wrong, it's not a BOAT at all, just a bridleway.
The owner of the land and huts has repented and taken it off the market. Seems he's taken early retirement and has more time for fishing.
