Getting back into beach fishing, I see there are rods longer than the std 12' ones when I last looked. As I always fancied a longer rod (used to have an ancient 3 piece 13 ft spinner that worked well) so have been looking.

I think I want to use lighter tackle than on my conoflexes & will be trying different locations along the mid - western south coast.

Any advice / recommendations appreciated.

Depends on your casting style, they can improve distance if thats why you want one?
Personaly I find anything more than 14ft a bit long. Most of mine are 13'6"ish & funnily enough my conoflex is the lightest of my casting (ie, not spinning) rods & the rest aren't that heavy.
Hi. By the way.

Any advice / recommendations appreciated.

Currently Veals Mail Order are doing a Grauvell BX450-Carbon Sport and reel deal for £70.

This is a 15 ft rod for f/spool fishing.Got one recently....can put a 3 oz lead out a long way, without a fancy casting style.Well impressed...how can they do it at such a price?

The currrent trend now appears to be long rods,f/spools and braid.
I still use mono and a multiplier set-up also, mainly now for rough weather fishing.

Hope this is helpful.

Horses for courses as they say,,,ive tryed a few different things over the last 3 years or so , the cheaper long rod set ups work well on a nice calm clean beach day ,, the 13ft + multiplier set ups work when the weather is crapp ,,, ive yet to find an excuse for spending 300 quid on a stiffer long rod to combat the bad weather conditions,,,:smilie12:,
