Was walking at double dykes yesterday and found some slipper limpets stuck together and a razorfish (?) in it's shell and still alive. They are now in my freezer.

What is the best method of getting slipper limpets out of the shell and what's the most effective method of hooking em. I seem to recall a post from the past where somebody suggested freezing them onto a baiting needle but that's not an option now.

Have any of you used razor fish as bait before? I know it can be bought frozen but I've never used it before. As I've only got one it will have to be put to good use!

To get the slipper limpets out of the shell I use the tip of a knife to slide them out...to prise the limpets off each other I use a stone to hit the shell and loosen it, then twist them off with my hands. I've had a lot from Avon beach after a blowout.

Last time I used them I used fine bait elastic to help secure them to the hook (used about 8 limpets per hook).. they stayed on ok. Also put salt on half on the limpets I collected prior to freezing to see if it would toughen up the outerskin (to help secure bait on hook) but didnt seem to have much effect with slipper limpets.

For razorfish (like all soft baits i guess) use bait elastic.

I have razorfish and slipper limpet in my freezer... I dont plan to use them again until there has been a good blowout and these baits are being washed up on teh beach (figure thats the time to use baits such as these as hopefully a blowout will encourage the fish to gorge on them).
