Do any of you fish here regularly? If so what's it like and what fish are caught here?

The reason I ask is that there was a programme on the telly that I saw where some divers were looking for spider crabs that are supposed to congregate round that area each year to mate or something. Anyway they said that there was a reef with kelp etc about 50 yards off the shore so presumably the fishing must be reasonable?

West bay pier is usually a good tourist haunt, unfortunately it is in the process of being developed so is out of bounds for about another year by all accounts, you can look it up on the web. Once it is finished however they are going to have a special fishing jetty the only one in UK! The only stumbling block at present is the funding of it, the council have come up with some money but they need to raise cash from private sources to pay for it, West Bay Watersports centre is the hub for donations etc.

There are better spots to fish, the further you travel towards Portland the better generally. West Bexington and Abbotsbury are good marks with easy access.
