Just kick off this forum with a mundane item. Directions to Abbotsbury - I drive from Xchurch/Southbourne and from the Dorchester by pass take the road to Martinstown, then hang a left to take a lane over the hills, turn left at the end then right then go along the road, through Abbotsbury itself then down to the car park near the beach. if you get stuck behind a slow moving vehicle it can be very frustrating.
One recent post mentioned a route through Portesham, is that any better? If so how do you connect from the by pass?

I always go through Portesham sound very similar route using b roads.
(http://www).multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=370000&Y=90000&width=700&height=400&client=public&gride=&gridn=&keepicon=false&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&lang=&scale=100000&left.x=11&left.y=10
I head along the Dortchester By-pass and out heading on the A35 towards Bridport until just before Winterbourne Abbas I see a signpost to Abbotsbury on the left hand side at the bottom of a hill. Turn left onto this B road then quick right and then quick left again (staggered junction really).
Following that road takes you through Portesham and at the end turn right onto main road(B3157) towards Abbotsbury and onward through Abbotsbury & forking LEFT to the Beach.
Probably not much in it ..but it works for me :D

Thats the way I go too. :D when you go out of Abbotsbury take first left to 'tropical gardens', right down hill, car park on left.

Nice one chaps - have checked my map book too but it's not too detailed on the smaller roads. May check out the portesham route if not too pushed for time on sat.
